So you may be thinking that this is a big word, but it is very simple! Sustainable fabrics — those used for clothing and other goods that are environmentally friendly. They also ensure that animals and human beings do no harm. Let’s dive in and learn more!
Did you know that producing garments could actually damage our planet? The fashion world is one of the planet's largest contributors to pollution. So when clothes are produced, they contribute to a lot of waste and destruction of the planet. At the same time, the individuals who are laboring to create these clothes are often not compensated fairly, either. They might not be paid adequately, or they might work in safe conditions.
That is really why it is so important for us to consider the origins of and the materials used in the things we wear. Choosing sustainable fabrics is not only for our benefit but also for the benefit of everyone else — including generations to come!
Decade of research into sustainable fabric There are various types of sustainable fabrics you may never have realized. Some are made from natural materials such as cotton, linen and wool. These are materials which originate from plants or animals. Cotton comes from cotton plants and wool comes from sheep.
Other sustainable fabrics are created from recycled materials, which are super awesome! Some clothes, for instance, are created from old plastic bottles or even from recycled clothes. That way, they are upcycled into something fresh and usable instead of being tossed into the trash.
The manufacturing of these sustainable fabrics often requires minimized energy and water. This is excellent for our planet because this means a lower degree of pollution. And, they are typically made by workers who are paid a fair wage and treated properly, which is super important!)
